Competitive Athletics (Grades 6–8)

St. Francis’ competitive athletics program is open to any sixth-, seventh- or eighth-grade Middle School student who desires to participate. The program strikes a balance between remaining competitive and giving each student playing time through innovative team structures that foster skill development while also supporting students who desire to play athletics at the high-school level.

Sixth- through eighth-grade students may sign up for three sports each year, one each in the fall, winter and spring seasons. Sports offered include football, cross-country, field hockey, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, basketball, softball, lacrosse, and track and field.

Students who are not actively playing sports but enjoy being involved in them are encouraged to be student managers for the teams of their choice. Student managers help keep the scorebooks and scoreboards, videotape contests, record statistics, help the coaches with equipment, and assist with specific team needs. The time expectation for a student manager during practices and competitions is identical to that for other team members, and student managers earn service hours for their time, effort and energy.

Youth Sports (Grades K–5)

While St. Francis Episcopal Day School does not offer a competitive athletics program for its younger students, kindergarteners through fifth graders have the opportunity to play league sports through the St. Francis Sports Association, a program of St. Francis Episcopal Church. This program offers a nice complement to St. Francis’ dynamic K–5 physical education classes, while meeting the needs of students who wish to begin playing sports prior to entering the school’s competitive Middle School athletics program.
