St. Francis Wolves Tackle Robotics Tournament
On Saturday, December 3, two LEGO Robotics teams from St. Francis competed in the qualifying tournament of FIRST LEGO League at Cinco Ranch Junior High. The teams worked over two months before school on programming a robotic LEGO model to complete a series of tasks on a challenge course called “Food Factor.” Each robot had to complete the course three times at the tournament. The students also had to do a research project concerning food contamination and safe food handling and to present a technical presentation on their programming of the robot plus a team-building problem.
Both teams were among the top 11 teams out of 24 from as far away as Galveston. They will advance to the Regional LEGO tournament at Reagan High School on January 7, 2012.
Congratulations to our 2 teams:
ROBOWOLVES: Colby G. and Drew C., eighth graders, and Cooper B. and Johnny K., seventh graders are pictured below. They won “Gracious Professionalism” and their research was on the recent Listeria outbreak on cantaloupes in Colorado.

CYBERWOLVES: Michael M., Louis M., Mitchell R., and James T., sixth graders are pictured below. They won “Outstanding Programming” and they created an iMovie on proper hand washing to prevent food contamination. Way to go, Wolves!
